Moin from Hamburg!

Do you know that feeling when your home is suddenly taken over by a colourful chaos of children's toys? That's exactly what we experienced when we became parents. Bright, garish colours everywhere, and us in the middle of it all, looking for beautiful toys and practical accessories that we parents like too and that still fit our budget. Not that easy, is it?

That's when we thought: Why don't we make them ourselves? High-quality, stylish and still affordable. Toys and accessories that not only encourage play, but also look good in any home. Modern design and muted colours.

It was a small challenge to get our (in-law) parents excited about this vision for bieco, but together we made it! 66 years of tradition, and with the change of generations we reinvented ourselves and created a range that is not only educationally valuable, but also a real eye-catcher.

We have been on this new path since 2020 and are super proud of it. And you know what? It looks like we're not the only ones who love our new direction. See for yourself!

For a beautiful home

Forget the garish, brightly coloured jumble! Inspired by the cool Scandi style, our toys not only provide plenty of fun for little ones, but also score points with their decorative value. In short, they are exactly what we would want in our own four walls too. The understated design blends harmoniously into your modern interior. So you can safely put off tidying up a little longer. Our motto: Less chaos, more fun and learning!

More information about the Ella Deer play mat

Buying guide: Who is it suitable for?

The Ella Deer play mat is ideal for families looking for a soft, padded surface for the first few months. With a diameter of 70 cm, it offers babies from 0 months a compact, easy-to-keep-an-eye-on area for tummy time, first reaching attempts, and relaxed cuddling. Thanks to the easy-care material, it is especially practical for everyday use when it comes to quick cleaning by hand wash. The round shape fits well in smaller rooms, next to the crib or under a play gym, provided the dimensions match. If you want to use the mat on the go, you benefit from the handy size, for example in the living room, in the nursery, or when visiting grandparents. Parents who value a clear structure in everyday life with a baby use the mat as a fixed play and rest spot. For siblings, it is a nice, defined area to play gently together with some distance from the floor or to read aloud.

What to look for in play mats

  • Material & feel: Look for a pleasantly soft surface that is gentle on baby’s skin and feels good to the touch.
  • Padding: A sufficiently padded surface provides comfort on harder floors; the thickness should suit where you’ll use it.
  • Size & space: Measure the intended area and choose the diameter so your baby can move freely.
  • Cleaning: Easy-care materials and clear care instructions make everyday life easier, especially in the first few months.
  • Safety: Use only under adult supervision and according to the product’s age recommendation.
  • Compatibility: If you use a play gym, the dimensions and stability should work well with the mat.

Ideas for use / play ideas

  • Plan short, frequent tummy-time sessions and talk to your baby in a calm voice.
  • Place small soft toys to the side so your baby turns their head to both sides.
  • Offer a teether within reach and gently encourage exploration.
  • Create a cozy reading corner with finger plays and quiet songs.
  • Slowly move a high-contrast rattle from left to right to practice tracking with the eyes.
  • Arrange toys in a semicircle to gently motivate your baby to stretch and roll.
  • Create a short massage routine on the mat after diaper changes.
  • Place it under a play gym, provided the dimensions match, and vary the hanging elements.
  • Offer small sensory bags or different fabric surfaces to feel and explore.
  • Establish short rest breaks on the mat with dimmed light and quiet music.
